Art by Sherrie Thai of Shaireproductions.com

Inspired by Gothic Art of the 1400s and modern street art. The point of this artwork is not to offend religious persons, but rather, an artistic expression--to show that propaganda is a form of advertising, and the largest vehicles are war and religion.

Soviet propaganda in an abandoned factory in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Some 12 years after purchase by Quicksilver, Albion Coachways have unexpectedly received their first-ever brand new vehicle. This Scania/Irizar i6 wasn't intended for this fleet and was instead to be painted silver for the parent company, but the primer coat went bad and the green Nitromors I had wouldn't shift the paint. While it sat waiting for a decent stripper to be procured, Oxford released the silver Kings Ferry version so that replaced it at Quicksilver and it ended up getting a bare metal respray in ivory for Albion instead. Numbered 60 and registered AC18 ACW, it is named 'Propaganda Man' after a Ray Wilson song as a result of the publicity it generated as the operator's first brand new coach.

This is not..... Real.....

One of a series of propaganda posters, designed to remind passengers of the important demands of war work placed on British bus companies, this was illustrated by Fougasse - well-known for his work in this field. Fougasse was the pen-name of Cyril Bird and this poster is very typical of his style. The Tilling Group were one of the big bus operating combines whose roots went back to carting and early horse bus operation in Victorian London - by this date, divested of their London fleet and routes to London Transport, they were active elsewhere in the UK - owning some famous fleet names (such as West Yorkshire and Crosville to name two) - they sold out to the new nationalised bus company in 1949.

French propaganda poster by Francisque Poulbot shows a little girl wearing a torn dress with red, blue, and white stripes, the colors of France, and a Phrygian cap, a symbol of the French Revolution. Lithograph by H. Chachoin, Paris, 1920.

I've moved onto WW2 posters now. I was a bit hesitant about this one in particular; I'm keen to make amusing points, and don't want to disregard the courage of people such as these pilots. On the other hand; I firmly believe that they were fighting for freedom, for their communities, their culture and heritage. And that includes libraries.

This artistic work created by the United Kingdom Government is in the public domain.

This is because it is one of the following:

1. It is a photograph created by the United Kingdom Government and taken prior to 1 June 1957; or

2. It was commercially published prior to 1961; or

3. It is an artistic work other than a photograph or engraving (e.g. a painting) which was created by the United Kingdom Government prior to 1961.

Today's pinup is another in the WW2 Propaganda Pinup Poster Series featuring this time Victoria and the US Army Infantry! In addition to many propaganda posters showcasing the calls to ration, buy war bonds, work hard in the factory, keep quiet, and much more; another popular type of poster were those that would promote the different branches of the Military. From women in the military to the different jobs you can have, these posers almost glamorized these jobs as if to be movie posters for real life painted by WW2 artist Jes Schlaikjer. Here, Victoria showcases the US Army Infantry which were the ground-pounding backbone of the US Army bringing the lines further in favor of the allies.

I learnt a new word today. Its a very big word. I don't quite know what it means.

I just hate it when people try to force their opinions on me. Ive seen flyer's and posters all over the place, each commending their own preferred system and condemning the other. Without any real information on how any of these systems work.

And in a few days everyones supposed to vote on it.

Inflate your waistcoat, wind down your eyes,

Tie on your best smile, check your disguise.

Dry clean your old jokes, practice despair,

Hide your relations under the stairs.

You're invited to attend the turkey party convention;

Isn't that nice?

You can leave your troubles at the door

We have ways to make you cheer

As long as you're not sick or poor

A negro or a queer.

We can fit you with a suit of clothes

That will make you look like us,

An appointments book and a new outlook

A ladder or a truss

Have another cup of reality

Drink and drink some more!

You can own a boat, a house, a car,

Or live like Howard Hughes;

Come on what have you got to lose...

And if you're discreet there are pleasures sweet

You can even swap your wife

If you'll only sign the dotted line

You'll be fine... Oh so fine...

Thank you for joining here are your pills

The man in the white coat wilI send you the bill.

Would you like to meet

Our most distinguished member... a doctor Faustus by name!

Is my face on straight?

Will they laugh at the gate

Oh I mustn' t be late

Is my face on straight?

Is my face on straight?

Will they let me throught the gate

Oh I mustn't be late

Is my face on straight... Is my face on straight...

Is my face on straight?

A young American in 1990 finds himself alone, staring at the Kremlin.

I had grown up like all American schoolkids on a steady diet of propaganda... these were supposed to be the evil people that pointed nuclear weapons at my home and my family. This symbol was the very center of that 'evil' empire.

I had slept in the bushes the night before at a Moscow train station... I woke up early staring at a large Soviet rat looking at me with it's beady little eyes and wondering what in the heck I was doing in his bushes.

The early morning Muscovite work crowd was treated to a laugh as the bedheaded American Jumped out of the bushes in a hurry.

I sat down and made myself some cold stale coffee and I watched Moscow wake up.

A group of young men assembled in front of me... they were wearing street clothes but being barked at by a soldier in uniform... I realized that these guys were headed straight into the Russian army. Always one for mischief I ran up to the line and stood at attention with them. I too would join the Russian Army.

The soldier yelled in my face as I tried to stand at attention in a passable manner. He seemed to be correcting my posture. I did not flinch. They all knew I was an American and the soldier played along as the recruits tried as hard as they could not to laugh.

We were all 'dismissed' after a few minutes of this treatment and some of the new recruits sat down with me there smoking Cosmonaut cigarettes... trying to talk to me in what english they could.

I had no jacket... I had lost it somewhere between Shanghai and here and the morning was only about fifty degrees. As the 'drill instructor' returned... one of the young recruits gave his jacket to me... 'take it' he said... 'they will only take it from me.'

The Russians always astounded me with their graciousness and hospitality.

In a world where there was little significance in material things their embrace of the human relationships impressed me.

I walked to the Kremilin in that cold morning sunshine... standing on front of that Iconic basilica I searched for someone to take my photograph and found no one. I had Red Square to myself.

As I had done many times in my wanderings before... I put my backpack down and photographed it... as if to say in effigy... 'Here I was.'

An epic journey for any twenty year old... the one consistant regret was always that in the presence of that great beauty... there was often never anyone to lean to and say 'would you look at that... can you believe such a beautiful thing exists.' It was quite the recurring theme.

Indeed, the photograph became essential.

Social media is a legal form of wiretapping.

World War I was the first conflict to harness the power of propaganda, and the British proved adept from the outset, playing particular emphasis on atrocity propaganda that portrayed the enemy as brutes as a way of mobilising public opinion. The Americans took note, and the imagery was notched up still further on the United States’ joining the war in 1917.

Josef Goebbels took further note when he became Nazi Germany’s Head of Propaganda from 1933. The Big Lie was his speciality.
